We all know how important a good education is for children. It sets the foundation for who they will become when they grow up. Studies show that preschool helps boost kids’ basic skills in math and literacy, helps them develop their motor skills, and encourages social development. This is particularly important for children with special needs. The Basking Ridge PALS program creates a nurturing environment that prepares children of all development levels to be ready to enter kindergarten. Registration for their 2019/2020 program begins on February 1st.
Basking Ridge PALS Program
The Basking Ridge PALS program offers hands-on learning in an integrated environment for kids ages 3 to 5. In the PALS program, children learn basic educational skills such as colors, numbers, letters, math, and science. But they also gain an understanding of music, art, and even some cooking. Since it is an integrated program, children from all skill levels learn from each other. This environment fosters social interaction as well as a concern for the well being of each other. That’s great for everyone.
Each classroom in the PALS program consists of 12 to 15 students. At least seven of these students have “special needs” as determined by the Preschool Child Study Team. The remainder of the class will be filled with typically developing children. Smaller class sizes allow teachers to tailor lessons to each individual child’s skill set as well as educate the entire group.
The PALS program is split into two sessions: AM and PM. Younger students attend the 9 am to 11:45 am session while older students will be placed in the 12:45 pm to 3:30 pm class. Classes take place on Mondays through Thursdays only. School is not in session on Fridays. The program follows the same schedule as the Bernard Township School District’s scholastic calendar.
